Let me present you one of the most powerful external mono speakers out there, the new X-mini UNO from XMI. Developed in Singapore, like its award-winning predecessors, such as the X-mini II that I reviewed a few years ago, the famous capsule speaker now features ceramic driver for an ever better sound quality.

Included Accessories

The new X-mini UNO comes with a cable that has tips for charging via USB and connectivity to the audio source via the 3.5mm jack. There’s also a nice black carry pouch, the small presentation/manual brochure, an “I love X-mini” sticker, and the Children International brochure about how XMI helps children in need.

Design and Features

In addition to the improvement in sound technology which is the result of months of research, I saw also an improvement in packaging design. The paper box which once opened wasn’t great for storing, was replaced by clear plastic packaging that stores the speaker and included accessories nicely and compact.

My UNO comes in Gun Metal, which is also my favorite color, and I love the metallic finish that reflects the light in such a way to produce two colors – black and grey. I like the tiny sparkling particles on the resonator and how I feel the air being pumped out as I press on the heads of the capsule. The design changes seem to be many, compared to the X-mini II at least.

On the capsule you can see the miniUSB charging port, the audio port, the volume adjustment wheel, and the On/Off button. Like the other capsules from XMI, UNO has a short connectivity cable for the audio source, rolled on the base. You can use the built-in 3.5mm jack to connect multiple UNOs to produce an even more powerful sound experience.

The music sounds great through the speaker and I can hear more sounds than from the older version. XMI used ceramic twitters to produce a wider range frequency range to cover lower and higher sounds when compared to aluminum tweeters. This leads to reduced sound distorsion. The sounds are clear and bright, while the speaker supports strong bass.

The built-in rechargeable battery lasts up to 20 hours after charged fully for about 2.5 hours.

Conclusion

Today’s electronic music requires good speakers to hear all the sounds of a song and most smartphones or other small audio sources don’t feature powerful built-in speakers. The X-mini UNO capsule speaker allows you to feel the music even while out and share it with friends. Dubstep and crunk sound great with it by the way, even if it’s not stereo, but if you insist in stereo speakers, keep an eye on the blog until I’ll publish the review of the new version of the X-mini Max stereo capsule speakers.
