Although some people consider car shopping to be a chore, in reality shopping for a new or used car can actually be a fun and exciting experience. You get to check out all kinds of different models with all kinds of features. You can also take them for a test drive, which gives you the opportunity to get an up close and personal look at as many different styles as you like. So if you’re in the market for a new car and you’re looking in the subcompact class, then your search will probably include the Scion xD. The xD has been around since 2007 (2008 model year) when it debuted in the U.S. and took the place of one of the first two Scion models, the xA. The xD is considered a 5-door hatchback and comes in either a 5-speed manual transmission or a 4-speed automatic.
The xD is considered to be a small and inexpensive car, but that doesn’t mean it skimps out on the nice features. One of the reasons to check out the xD is that has many standard features that might be considered extras on other cars, including:
Remote keyless entry
Full power accessories
Bluetooth phone & streaming audio
Front and side curtain airbags
Like all Scion vehicles, the xD is marketed to the younger generation so it includes several other features aimed at attracting that crowd. Some of those features include iPod/USB connection, a subwoofer for pounding out some serious tunes and a six-speaker Pioneer sound system so you can hear those tunes from every angle.
Extras, Extras, Extras
Besides the full allotment of standard features the Scion xD also boasts several options that allow you to customize your car to fit your style. You can add larger wheels and tires, lowering springs, quick-shift kits, a ramped up exhaust system, bigger brakes and of course a navigation system.
Safe and Fun to Drive
The xD may be small in stature but its 128-horse power engine gives it a quick boost of power on the road, especially compared to other cars in the subcompact class. While it is fun drive the xD is also a top safety choice. The xD received five stars in both front and rear seat passenger safety in side impact collision in government crash tests, which is the top score possible. It also received four stars in both front-end collision and roll over rating. The xD also boasts a history of reliability being named the most reliable new vehicle in the United States in 2009 with more than 80 percent less problems than the average vehicle.
