Using VIPRE Antivirus

As you can see in the screenshots I took, VIPRE’s quick installation goes smooth and I was surprised to not be prompted for advanced settings that I don’t understand, during the setup process.

Obviously, it’s not the first antivirus solution I’m using, and I can say that, when compared to the other top software in charge with securing the system, VIPRE seems much easier to install, setup and use. That’s what I consider to be the key benefit of an antivirus. Regardless of the large list of settings and features advertised, an antivirus has to be easy to use even by unexperienced people, while being capable to protect the system without interfering with user’s activity.

Another thing I like at VIPRE Antivirus is that I can shut it down completely with two mouse clicks. It can be accessed from the icon in the taskbar whenever you need to check the settings and you can shut it down by simply choosing the option in the right-click menu. This is not possible with other similar software and you can quickly re-eneable it using the icon on the desktop.

In the main window you can see the protection status and get access to all the program’s options. You can start a quick or deep scan and edit settings for the Active Protection, Email Protection and Updates. You also can submit a suspicious file for analysis to Sunbelt and manage the system with the provided tools. These tools include the Secure File Eraser for eliminating file traces, the History Cleaner for the browsing and search history, and the PC Explorer for viewing hidden computer settings.

At any time, when you’re confused about something, you can access the Help file with details about each option and setting.

To be able to install and run VIPRE Antivirus, you only need to make sure your computer has st least 512MB RAM memory and one of the following Windows editions: Windows Server 2008 (32/64-bit), Windows Server 2003 (32/64-bit), Windows 2000 SP4 RollUp 1, Windows Embedded for Point of Service (WEPOS), Windows XP SP1, SP2, SP3 (32/64-bit), Windows Vista (32/64-bit) or Windows 7 (32/64-bit).

To enable protection against email viruses, you need to use one of the supported email applications: Outlook 2000+, Outlook Express 5.0+, Windows Mail on Vista, and SMTP and POP3 (Thunderbird, IncrediMail, Eudora, etc.). SSL is supported in Outlook and Outlook Express.
