Technology Trends That Will Explode in 2014

Technology Trends That Will Explode in 2014Whether you have a tablet from Lenovo or a Windows 8 compatible PC, you’ll know that technology has come on significantly in recent years. It’s quicker, smarter and quirkier than ever before but that doesn’t stop developers coming up with a host more weird and wonderful ideas. In fact, companies everywhere are taking things to the next level and surprising consumers at every turn, so what technology trends can we expect to explode in 2014?

Internet of Things devices

Back in 1999, British technology pioneer Kevin Ashton coined the phrase an “Internet of Things” but what does this really mean? Well, his Internet of Things was a system which connected the internet to the outside world via a host of sensors and this concept really proved popular at the International Consumer and Electronics Show (CES) 2014. That’s right, those privileged enough to peruse the vast range of gadgets on display in Las Vegas, Nevada came across a host of products including’s Mother. This device is designed to run a household with ease and centres around Mother, an intelligent hub which receives information from 24 Motion Cookie tracing devices. Not only can it sense movement but it can also detect temperature changes and sends all vital statistics to your smart device of choice. This type of management product is becoming increasingly popular, so keep a look out for similar devices throughout 2014.

Beautiful yet wearable technology

If you thought Google Glass was inventive, you’re sure to be stunned by the vast array of wearable technology that’s now available. Many companies used CES as a platform to introduce their craziest ideas but what gadgets really stood out from the crowd? Smartwatches were certainly big at this year’s tradeshow but while we’ve already seen things such as the Galaxy Gear from Samsung, they’re now looking a lot swankier. Indeed, technology companies have been working alongside fashion designers to bring us much more aesthetically pleasing products that bridge the gap between geeky and gorgeous. The Pebble Steel, for example, is designed to be worn with a stainless steel or leather strap and is thought to be influence by traditional watches and devices such as cellphones. The Netamo June bracelet, which is designed to track sun exposure also comes with Louis Vuitton and Camille Toupet-designed jewels making it a must-have for the New Year.

Curved and bendy televisions

Until recently, large flatscreen TVs were bang on trend. Not only could they be mounted on the wall for a cinematic type experience but they also provided a clear picture thanks to HD and ultra HD sets. Freeview and Internet TV also gave consumers optimum flexibility and brought watching TV into the 21st century but things have now got even cooler! At CES, both Samsung and their Korean rivals LG announced curved-screen TVs that apparently give off a much better picture. As if that wasn’t awesome enough, some of the sets can transform from a flat to a curved TV depending on your preference. There were even devices that can bend both ways and although the price of these gadgets was kept somewhat under wraps, bendable televisions are just waiting to go mainstream at some point in the future.

If CES 2014 was anything to go by, this year is going to be an exciting one for technology lovers, so watch this space.
