Yesterday Tata Motors, India’s largest automobile company, has announced the launching of the world’s cheapest new car called Tata Nano. The price starts at around $2,200 (converting from Indian Rupees at the time of writing) and the booking process begins next month, the car being prepared for release in stores in July.
Tata Nano was unveiled last year and comes with a large compartment for passengers and assize of 3.1 meters in length, 1.5 meters in width and 1.6meters in height. Even if it’s spacious inside, the world’s cheapest car has a small exterior footprint.
It will be available in 3 versions.

Tata Nano Standard brings 3 color options, single-tone seats and fold-down rear seat, while the Tata Nano CX offers 5 color options, heating and air conditioning, 2-tone seats, parcel shelf, booster-assisted brakes, and fold-down rear seat with nap rest. The Tata Nano LX adds complete fabric seats, central locking, front power windows, body colored exteriors in three premium colors, fog lamps, electronic trip meter, cup holder in front console, mobile charger point, and rear spoiler.

Specifications include:
- 2-cylinder engine enabling 35 PS at 5250 rpm and a torque of 48 Nm at 3000 rpm. It allows the car to reach a speed of 105 kmph and handle inclines of 30% degree.
- 23.6 km/litre fuel efficiency
- low CO2 emission enabled by the combination of a high fuel efficiency and kerb weight of 600 kg.
- Safety enhancements: all sheet-metal body, reinforced passenger compartment, crumple zones, intrusion-resistant doors, tubeless tyres.

Tata Motors set a warranty of 18months for the Nano, or 24,000 km, and delivers various accessories matching the car’s design, including the Nano phone, Nano watch, T-Shirts, alloy wheels, body kits and decals.

Tata, Chairman of Tata Sons and Tata Motors. “It is to the credit of the team at Tata Motors that a car once thought impossible by the world is now a reality. I hope it will provide safe, affordable, four-wheel transportation to families who till now have not been able to own a car. We are delighted in presenting the Tata Nano to India and the world.”
