STK PowerCard 400mAh Power Bank Hands-on Review
Published by Sierra Monica P. on October 10, 2013 under Reviews
Coming in a slim design, at the size of a credit card, the STK PowerCard is an emergency charger compatible with any handset featuring microUSB charging port. You can use it to provide extra hours of standby to your smartphone when the battery is almost drained and you don’t have where to recharge it, such as while out, camping. Besides working as an external battery, the gadget has two other functions – powerful mini LED torch and microUSB cable.
Design and Features
The STK power bank is the size of a credit card and only 5.5mm thick, which makes it easy to store in a small jeans pocket or bag pocket. The two built-in USB and microUSB connectors are stored flush in the body of the device.
I’m not sure why they designed the microUSB head with the large base, but this requires the removal of the case from the phone, as the tip is short and won’t reach the port.
The microUSB connector is for charging your smartphone, while the USB connector is for recharging the power bank from the computer or through an USB AC adapter. I managed to recharge the power bank in about 3 hours. I then used it to charge my phone and saw an increase of 8% on the battery status indicator, from 15% to about 23%, until the charger’s drained.
Connecting the charger to the computer via USB enables data cable functionality, allowing you to access the data on the phone from the computer and transfer files. The pass-through charging ensures that once the power bank is fully charged, it will start charging the smartphone, even while connected to the computer.
To activate the three functions of the PowerCard, you have to slide the little button to the left, middle or right, based on the three indicators – LED, USB and Power.
The built-in battery of the power bank is a Lithium-Polymer 400mAh and you can check the status on the back, where the tiny LED changes from blue to red or green, depending on the current mode or remaining battery.
Conclusion
The STK Power Bank doesn’t store much charging but helps a lot when you really need to quickly check your emails or have to place an important phone call, while the small size allows you to keep it in smallest spaces so you won’t feel it’s there.
