I’ve rarely heard about professional rice cookers, but I could never explain to myself why would someone develop a sophisticated electronic device only for cooking rice, when there are plenty of pots in which you can cook it inside your oven.
Still, I managed to find some free minutes to read about this kitchen gadget to know if it’s worth buying and the model I was looking at earlier is Sanyo’s ECJ-PX50S, the 5-cup Micom Pressure Rice Cooker.
This is a stylish device that would definitely look good in a modern and large kitchen, while measuring 9 13/16 x 13 1/2 x 9 inches. It’s not small, but let’s see what it knows to do with the rice.

First, it’s clear that an electronic device has the main function of doing everything it was designed for automatically. In the rice cookers’ case, you have to add the right amount of water and rice, then leave the device and come back later to find the rice cooked. The time it takes to cook it is about the same as when using your oven, but your rice won’t stick to the special bowl contained inside the electronic device.
More than that, you won’t have to worry about bacteria, as the device can keep the rice warm for up to 24 hours.

Sanyo ECJ-PX50S uses the variable pressure control technology to cook the rice, maintaining its flavor, which is particularly important when using perfumed Basmati rice.
It features multiple menus and texture options for when you need to cook different types of rice, such as white rice, Haiga rice, rinse-free rice, brown rice, porridge, sprouted brown rice, mixed rice, sweet rice, Dol Sot Bi Bim Bab, and sushi rice. It provides quick or slow cooking and steaming functions, as well 5-cup uncooked and 10-cup cooked capacity.

On the outside it’s made from stainless steel and has an LCD clock and a 24-hour timer. You can set the keep warm, sleep and energy-saving functions, while it also features safety lock, retractable cord, measuring cup, spatula and many recipes included in the user manual.
People who used it say it’s the perfect rice cooker and it’s easy to clean, among others. That’s why it has a high rating on Wize, while on TestFreaks it already scored 9 points out of 10 for that fact that the rice comes out crust-free and tasty.

The rice cooker model uses 650 Watts of power to function and was introduced at a suggested retail price of $289.99, but now you can find it at around $180.
