Maybe it happened to you to be in front of an impressive landscape that you wanted to immortalize but your camera phone didn’t have image stabilization and the involuntary shaking of your hands produced unclear images. Other times it would have been great to be able to catch yourself in the photo together with all your friends on a trip, but someone had to hold the phone to take the photo. Sometimes you need to record tutorials for YouTube, but your camera is also a smartphone and can’t be mounted on a tripod. For all these cases and others the solution is a tripod adapter.
I was able to find a few tripod adapters on the Internet but they all seemed pricey, at around $30, so I think this model here is perfect for those using a smartphone that’s smaller than 7 cm in width, including iPhone 5 and Samsung Galaxy S4.
Tmart Tripod Adapter Features
The tripod adapter has a durable construction and a nice mirror black finish. It’s made from a strong plastic material and is adjustable horizontally and vertically to support various phone sizes. That’s why it’s also known as a universal tripod adapter.
I like that it features 4 soft pads on the interior so you can slide the handset easily without scratching it in case your phone is close to 7 cm in width, which requires you to force it a bit into the adapter. My smartphone measures 6.7 cm in width and since I couldn’t keep it in its case, I was afraid that the adapter will scratch it, but that can’t happen if I slide it on these pads located at the top, bottom and side.
The tripod adapter from Tmart features the standard tripod mount at the bottom so you can set it on any tripod, including tall ones, as well as small and flexible tripods.
The mobile accessory also comes with a mini portable tripod featuring 3 extendable legs, 360 degree rotation and 45-degree tilting.
I think the tripod adapter will help me a lot with recording HD videos during product reviews because my digital camera doesn’t have HD recording capability. I recommend the tripod adapter for phones of up to 7 cm in width, but now it depends on how much you are willing to force your handset into the adapter. If your phone is smaller than, say, 5 cm, you can keep the case to enable double protection, while if it’s larger than 5-6 cm, you’d have to remove the case and rely on the 3 pads of the tripod. My gel/silicone case make my smartphone too large to fit the adapter, so I have to remove it first. In such cases I recommend using the tripod adapter just occasionally, or get a protective film (like InvisibleShield) that covers the sides too.
The Universal Mobile Phone Holder is available for $7.46 at Tmart.com.
