Smartphone apps can help keep track of money, schedule meetings and appointments and remind us when we need to buy milk. For many people, mobile phones are even helping them with their love lives.

Obviously, anything that keeps people talking is good for romance — and if it isn’t, that isn’t a promising sign for the relationship anyway — but conversations aren’t the only way that smartphones can foster romance.

Popular location apps such as iOS’s Friends Finder or Google Latitude are good ways of finding out where someone is located. Agreed, it’s not necessarily romantic to stalk someone per se, but practically, if you want to make sure that everything is ready before your date arrives – it’s good to know how much time you’ve got. Also, if your date says they’re ‘ill’ and don’t turn up, but Google Latitude tells you that they’re at the Odeon, the app acts as a kind of lie detector.
