La Figa: Visions of Food and Form – A Book About Flavor and Pleasure
Published by Sierra Monica B. on August 29, 2011 under Product Reviews and Giveaways
First I must say I don’t know much about art, but have always appreciated everything that was new and interesting, such as new concepts revealed through photography. When I first browsed the La Figa book, I was surprised by the feelings some photos can inspire just by looking at them. An image can say a thousand words, they say, and this book made me look at people from a different angle, because when bodies combine with fruits and vegetables, they become fresh and even more beautiful, like nature that made them.
La Figa: Visions of Food and Form celebrates the two human appetites, for food and for pleasure, in an interesting way, using naked men and women decorated with fresh ingredients like fruits and vegetables. This is the result of the 5-year collaboration between Chef Tiberio Simone and photographer Matt Freedman who consider food and pleasure as the main ingredients of life.
Inside the book, you can find beautiful life stories that inspired the author and are related to the vegetables and fruits presented in the photos, as well as healthy and delicious vegetarian recipes like Minted Zucchini, Drunken Figs, Grilled Porcini Mushrooms, Chocolate-Raspberry Kiss or Espresso Affogato. I can’t wait to try them all.
This book probably beats any other coffee table magazine. I can visualize it in my living, in the beauty salon, in a waiting room, in the hotel reception area and in all places where you can sit comfortable and browse through its pages. You’d probably leave with a smile on your face, a feeling of freshness and appetite for fruits and vegetables, and, why not, ideas for spending intimate moments with your lover.
La Figa: Visions of Food and Form has over 160 photographs, 20 recipes and 40 essays about food, love and life, and is available for purchase at Amazon for $39.95, but you can also order a singed copy from the official website.
After I finished browsing the photos, I fancied some fresh vegetables and fruits and that’s what I ate. It’s amazing how some artistic photos can change your state of mind, but you won’t fully understand what I mean until you have the book in your hands.
