As many of you already know, InvisibleSHIELD is the world’s toughest protection film. I have been curious about it since a couple of years ago when I first had the chance to write about it in a news article, but guys at Invisible Skinz were so nice to send us a sample for review, so today I’m anxious to tell you all the details about my experience with the InvisibleSHILED on my LG Viewty cell phone.
Of course, you can find the protection film in many versions, for cell phones, laptops, digital cameras, e-book readers, gaming systems, GPS devices, portable media players, portable digital assistants, watches and tablet computers.
InvisibleSHIELD was developed by ZAGG and is available for the entire body of your gadget or for the display only.
Maybe not many of you know that the world’s toughest protection film is made from an extremely durable material originally used by the US Military for protecting the leading edges of helicopter blades. The urethane plastic that the InvisibleSHIELD is made of features high resistance to abrasion and self-healing properties, while being very flexible.
Because it is extremely durable and scratch-resistant it comes with a lifetime replacement guarantee, so if it gets scratches or peels off you get another one for free.
If you’re wondering about the price I can say it doesn’t seem high to me. An InvisibleSHIELD for my LG Viewty KU990 costs $24.99 for full body coverage and $14.99 for screen protection only.
In the box:
The InvisibleSHIELD comes in a slim paper box that contains all the tools you need to apply the protection film perfectly. Inside you can find the InvisibleSHIELD, a lint-free microfiber cloth, an installation card, the application solution and a sheet of paper with the installation instructions. Unlike the package for the iPhone which comes with a spray solution, this one has the solution inside a plastic container with a special sponge, and once opened you can’t store it for along time.
Before installing the InvisibleSHIELD:
As you can see in the images, the envelope containing the film and the tools invites you to first register the product on the official website before installing it, to activate the lifetime warranty.
Installing the InvisibleSHIELD:
Installing the protection film is extremely simple, but it takes time if you’re not experienced. Let’s see how it works.
I followed the instructions and first washed my hands with water and soap, then I used the included microfiber cloth to clean my cell phone from greasy fingerprints. After that I opened the container with the application solution and squeezed the black sponge, as well as wet my fingers on both hands with the solution. This avoids leaving fingerprints on the device, while allowing you to handle the film easier.
There are several film parts that you have to apply on the handset, including for the back, camera area, touchscreen, the two sides, top and bottom. It doesn’t matter which one you start with. I chose the film piece covering the back of my cell phone.
You have to wet your fingers before removing the InvisibleSHIELD parts from the backing and then sponge the back of the film before applying it. This allows you to remove it as many time as you want and reapply it immediately until you are satisfied with the results.
The film is very flexible and extremely thin, but it doesn’t break. After applying it you can drag it on the handset to the best position as many times as you want.
You can use the included card to sqeeze out tiny bubbles under the film, in case there are some. Although the tiny bubbles dissipate within 24 hours, I was lazy and left two big bubbles on the touchscreen area and now I can’t take them out because the handset is dried. Another issue was that I finished applying the film at night and the next day I found the part covering the camera area off so I had to wet it again and reapply it back. After 24 hours it stuck there and I had no more problems with it.
Just remember that you’ll have to leave your device to dry for 24-48 hours before using it and once dried you won’t be able to reapply the film if you remove it.
If at some point you want to remove the InvisibleSHIELD you have to simply peel it off slowly. It won’t leave any residue, but you won’t be able to apply it back anymore.
Well, that’s it. Everything is simple when you have all the tools in the box.
My experience with the InvisibleSHIELD:
After 24-48 hours, when my phone was completely dry, I washed it with water and soap using a sponge in the bathroom. It looked dirty because I used the solution for every film piece.
I took my cell phone with me out and went shopping two times during the last two days, keeping the handset in my right jeans pocket. I wanted to see if the film peels off like it happened with an S-Create protection film a while ago. After keeping it inside my pocket in a hot summer day I found the film peeled off because of the heat and humidity inside my pocket, as it was tight on my leg.
With the InvisibleSHIELD this didn’t happen and I can say I’m impressed!
The next thing I tried was to scratch my display with my keys a few times, as you can see in the video, to see if it breaks the film or if the scratches will heal, and that’s exactly what happened. The scratches heal within a few seconds. It’s amazing! I really don’t know what else I could do to this film as I don’t think there’s something that could break it during normal use.
Later edit: After a few days, the tiny air bubbles under the film disappeared, as you can see in the last image.
Now I have to say the InvisibleSHIELD is the best protection film I’ve ever heard of and used and I recommend it to anyone who wants to keep their gadgets scratch-free for a reasonable price.
You can find it at Invisible Skinz.
