Bitdefender

If you were to ask me about my favorite antivirus solution, I would answer it’s the one I’ve been using for three consecutive years, which I also recommend to friends, and that’s Bitdefender Total Security. Actually, my first Bitdefender version was Internet Security but after one year I switched to the complete solution for my computer.

My story began a few years ago, when I was working for a foreign company and the communication was done via email. Unfortunately, at some point, my computer got infected as I was downloading various things from the web, without using any protection. Basically, I had no antivirus solution installed, not even Windows Firewall, so it was my fault that I lost my email account and all the associated accounts. You guessed, it was a Gmail. It took several months to get my job back, because I had to wait for all the formalities to be finished, and in the mean time I was also lucky to win my first security software license, for Bitdefender Internet Security 2009, after participating to a contest. Since I learned my lesson the hard way, I’ve never connected to the Internet without an active security solution anymore.

Now, as I was telling you, I’m using Bitdefender Total Security 2013. This is the latest version of the security software and the most complete for home users. It protects your computer when you’re offline, but also while browsing the web; it scans every device that you connect to your computer, as well as every web page that you’re about to visit, before clicking on links. The great part is you will know there is a hidden malware before accessing it. Prevention is what Bitdefender bases on when dealing with online threats and for me this is the main feature that I need.

Like many of you, I’m using the Internet for working online, to login on different web sites, for online shopping, and online banking. Paypal is the safest way to transfer money online, while Internet banking also provides security features, but with Bitdefender you get maximum security thanks to the SafePay browser with built-in security for your sensitive information, which activates automatically when you’re about to login on your bank account or perform an online transaction.

Another key feature of Bitdefender Total Security 2013 is Anti-Theft, designed for laptop users whose system is lost or stolen. In case I lose my laptop, I can rely on Anti-Theft to locate it and choose whether to lock the system or wipe all the data stored on it.

In addition to antivirus and antispyware capabilities, the security software also comes with Autopilot, which is helpful for those of you who don’t know much about setting a security software. Autopilot takes over the job for you and handles security at all levels, automatically. If you’re an expert user, you can switch to the User Mode at any time.

USB Immunizer is a built-in function that prevents NTFS, FAT or FAT32 flash drives from executing malware on your computer, while Antiphishing keeps your personal and sensitive information safe during web browsing through all major web browsers, as well as on Yahoo! Messenger.

Another favorite feature is the search advisor, which rates search engine results, as well as all the links you encounter on web pages, including on facebook. You only need to check the symbols next to links and make sure they are green, instead of red.

More than that, for social sites, Bitdefender provides the safego service that you can activate on twitter and facebook. It scans everything and prevents your account from getting infected. This feature saved my account a week ago when I received an automated message with an infected link from a friend, on facebook. I clicked on the link but Bitdefender alerted me that there's malware. I wish I had safego active a few months ago when my twitter account was hacked.

Parental Control comes enhanced to allow parents to block innapropriate content, restrict web access between prefered hours, or monitor kids’ online activity remotely.

The program delivers two-way firewall protection, anti-spam, Tune-Up utilities for optimizing your computer (disk defragmentation, registry cleanning/recovering, duplicate finder, and general cleaning), and the Bitdefender SafeBox for important data stored on your computer, which you can backup on secure servers and access from anywhere.

You can view and control the installed applications via your MyBitdefender online account.

Bitdefender is not only my favorite security software, but also the CNET Editor’s Choice and PCMag Editor’s Choice, being ranked #1 in antivirus software. You can find the best solution for your needs, as a home or business user, starting with Bitdefender Antivirus Plus and Bitdefender Internet Security, and continuing with Bitdefender Total Security, Bitdefender Mobile Security for smartphones, and BitDefender Sphere that covers all devices in your household.

Read all about BitDefender and purchase the solution that best suits your needs on the official website, at Bitdefender.com.

Now I have some great news for you! Until October 16th, you have the chance to win a brand new Dell Inspiron laptop with BitDefender Total Security pre-installed. Enter the contest here and good luck!
